Health and safety professionals have a huge responsibility, and the challenges of dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 heightened the awareness of the value of what health and safety professionals can bring to an organization.
The health and safety sector is not new to change, but is in a state of constant flux due to the ever-evolving nature of workplace dangers.
The profession has been primarily male-dominated, but that is starting to change. In March, Canadian Occupational Safety hosted its second annual 'Women in Safety' summit.
The recent virtual event introduced the "Top Women in Safety" for 2021. From hundreds of nominations across Canada, the list was pared down to the top 40, and includes women who are at the top of their game and leaders in their fields.
Belleville's own Lisa Hallsworth, CEO Rillea Technologies is on that list. “It’s such an honour to be named among this esteemed group of Canadian women, especially in 2021 when workplace safety has taken on a whole new meaning." says Hallsworth. "Similar to COVID19, workplace chemical hazards can be invisible yet harmful to people. I'm grateful to be recognized as an innovator for the work that Rillea Technologies is doing to improve an employer's knowledge and control over workplace chemicals, through our proprietary cloud-based technology, SDS RiskAssist.”
