Today we coordinated a lunch & learn session in partnership with Wilkinson & Company to review the proposed federal tax changes and their impending impact on small and family owned corporations.
It was great to see some familiar faces but also encouraging to welcome a few new people in the crowd. We strive to find ways to bring you relevant and important information to help your business prosper. Based on the questions during the session, it was evident this particular topic has caused concern and some confusion. While changes aren't yet set in stone, Kris was able to offer some strategies about what to do now and what might happen if all goes through on January 1st.
Advocacy is a key component of what the Chamber is meant to do – and we appreciated the letter we received from MP Ellis’ office this week. He has asked us to share it with you and I hope you will take the time to read it. He has been one of few lone voices in the Liberal camp to speak up for business and while the consultation period is over, we do see signs the focus on tax reform has shifted and the impact will not be as destructive. Beyond representing your interests, we are also here to provide you with resources to cope with legislative changes when they apply directly to business. The OCC has also created an extensive handbook on managing the changes for Bill 148 - posted here if you are interested.
Join us for breakfast on November 29 to hear more about these resources or watch for future lunch sessions like this one! Breakfast Information Here
On another note, tomorrow represents a day of Remembrance for those who served to maintain our freedom. In honour of our members who served, a wreath is placed at the Cenotaph during the service tomorrow.
