It’s been a big week in Belleville!  The Yardman arena came back to life with the first home game of our new Belleville Senators AHL Hockey team – and those attending got their money’s worth with a win in a shootout! Cheers to them and an exciting season ahead!

It’s also been a week of celebrating businesses and people – the Intelligencer announced their Reader’s Choice awards and hosted the Remarkable Business Woman of the Year award last Friday. Congratulations to all the nominees, including the runner-up Ann Earle-Dempsey of the Belleville Police Service and member, Dr. Aruna Alexander. The list of nominees was long – their accomplishments and contributions to the community even longer. A full on cheer to all those nominated!

I also had the opportunity to make a presentation to the Rotary Club of Belleville. The topic of “business” was rather broad, so I focused on how we’ve been building our message – that the Chamber helps your business prosper through connecting, representing and sharing. I explained how we do this and as a membership organization, we hope you are finding ways to grow your business with at least one of these activities. That said, we are always looking for your input and questions so don’t forget about our Open Mic survey – always available from our website… or an email is welcome too!

Do scroll down to see the many events we have coming up – and special mention of the session we’re offering with Kristian from Wilkinson & Company LLP regarding the proposed federal tax changes. I spoke to someone who attended the Quinte West session and he confirmed the information was valuable and presentation well done. In fact, he noted there isn’t much time left to navigate the changes if they do come into play on January 1 – business owners have about a month to figure out if they are going to be impacted – if you have a family business, please do join us next Friday at the Belleville Club [REGISTER HERE]

And finally, my debut on Cogeco’s Your TV “From the Cheap Seats” with Bill Glisky last night. A lively conversation – and I guess we’re going to make this a monthly thing, so I’ll be on the first Thursday of the month!  Tune in on December 7^th – 7:00 pm.
