Mayor Neil Ellis delivered his annual "State of the City Address" to a packed room this morning at the breakfast hosted by The Bellville Chamber of Commerce.
Mayor Ellis, before he began, made a point of recognizing recently retired Police Chief Mike Callaghan for his years of service to our community.
Ellis described the capital projects underway with the city as well as congratulating Karen Poste on the continued success of the 'doctor recruitment' program.
He passionately defended the city's $2 million levy to support The Bridge Integrated Care Centre at the former Alhambra Hall, backed y a 40-bed detox centre, with further social housing supports. He continued by expanding on the increasing impacts of the homeless and opioid addiction crisis that are affecting development in the downtown as well as affecting existing residents and businesses.
