The biggest little talent show in Quinte has brought in record support for programming at the Children’s Safety Village.
Kids Got Talent, which took to The Empire Theatre stage on Sunday April 2, brought in an estimated $101,752 in proceeds, shattering the goal of $90,000. This year’s incredible result brings the four-year total for Kids Got Talent to nearly $330,000.
Kids Got Talent is the primary fundraiser for the Children’s Safety Village Belleville, which teaches school-aged children how to be safe in a wide range of areas from pedestrian and bike safety to fire, rail and Internet safety. CSV Belleville receives no direct financial support from any level of government.
Kids Got Talent committee chair Sherry Barker praised the community for its generosity in support the Safety Village and the incredible performers at the event.
"It's very hard to put into words how incredible it is," Barker said. "I can't believe the number of people who came to me and said 'every season just keeps getting better and better.' The talent is stronger every year."
The show featured 24 contestants in various categories singing, playing instruments and dancing.
The grand prize was awarded to brothers Micah and Shawn Garvin who performed 'She Talks to Angels' by The Black Crowes.
Top prizes were also handed out to Ellie Steven, Ages 4-10; Vanessa Brant, Ages 11-17; and Emma Colby and Mikaela Shea, Groups. Angelica Li received the Premier's Choice award while the People's Choice Award voted on by those in attendance went to acrobatic performers Natalie Reilly, Kiley LaFleur and Paige Baldwin. The show also featured a moving finale led by choir singers Payton Cherneskie and Taryn O'Reilly along with the contestants, the No Limits Youth Organization and local children from the community coming together to sing 'This is Me' from The Greatest Showman.
