This week marked the passing of Bill 148 and while the Ontario Chamber of Commerce lobbied hard to slow down the process, the pleas of small business owners and municipalities to consider the unintended consequences were ignored. So, what happens next? Many of you already pay your staff the incoming wage rate, so you might think you’re ready… but there are many different implications depending on the size or type of business you have.
To help you understand how this will impact you and your business, Suzanne Hunt, from Templeman Menninga LLP will be one of our speakers at our Chamber Breakfast next Wednesday to provide you some critical guidance on what you need to do and be aware of… the Bill is 51 pages long http://www.ontla.on.ca/bills/billsfiles/41_Parliament/Session2/b148rep1_e.pdf and if you haven’t had a chance to read through it, please join us to get a Cole’s Notes version on what you need to be most aware of… other changes are anticipated with regard to the Federal Corporate tax rates as well, and we have Kris Himberg-Larsen from Wilkinson & Company to come and talk about that issue.
The Provincial & Federal Chambers have advocated strongly on your behalf but now your local Chamber needs to support you by sharing the information and expertise you need to move forward. We want you to be aware of the local resources available to help you through this period of adjustment and we will coordinate further learning opportunities.
