Canada's first Indigenous Governor General is announced
Prime Minister Trudeau announced that an Inuk leader and former Canadian diplomat, Mary Simon, will serve as Canada’s 30th governor general. Simon is the first Indigenous person to serve in the role.
“Mary Simon takes up her important responsibilities at a critical time in our country's history. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce joins with all Canadians in extending congratulations and best wishes as she assumes her new role” commented Perrin Beatty, Canadian Chamber of Commerce President & Chief Executive Officer.
