Fighting the Good Fight Over Tax Changes

Over the last 8-10 weeks, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber Network have been fighting the good fight over tax changes that threatened businesses across the country.

When we work as one network, we can achieve great things. Our collective heightened efforts on the tax changes have made the federal government rethink their proposals. As of mid-October, we saw the government adjust their original plans for tinkering with the tax system.

This was the “network in motion” at its best. When we all work together, we can achieve great things. We have been successful at these network efforts twice in 2017. Once on proposed changes when the government proposed to tax of group health benefits and then, more recently, with the tax changes. We have proven that the chamber network is be a force to be reckoned with!

MP Neil Ellis was one of those that really took the time to listen to what local businesses had to say on this issue and passed on the concerns he was hearing to the Finance Minister. He has sent a letter to be shared to the Bay of Quinte area businesses thanking them for engaging with him on this important issue and providing an update on the Ministry of Finance’s Fall Economic Statement 2017.  The letter also thanks each Chamber of Commerce, across the riding, for their work in assisting small business operators during the Ministry of Finance’s tax consultation.
