March 8 has been the designated day of recognition for #IWD since 1911. More than a century since that inaugural Women’s Day, we should be further along the road to women’s equality than we are.

In 2022, according to the World Economic Forum, the global gender gap in workforce participation stands at 68.1%. At the current rate of progress, it will take 132 years to reach full parity.

While the celebration of #IWD is important, the need for continued conversation and action is urgent. We also know that future discussions need to be more inclusive. Men and women need to be at the table together. The barriers women face have broad implications that affect the social and economic well-being of all Canadians.

To keep the conversation going beyond IWD, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce has developed a playbook that can help foster more conversations. We hope that you will use it and/or share it with your colleagues as we push forward for change.
