From the Desk of Chamber CEO Jill Raycroft

Happy December!!!  This has just been such an awesome week!  We all know how easy it is to get caught up in the daily routine of phone and e-mail but this Wednesday’s double-header with a breakfast and a mingle in the same day reminded me why we do what we do and LOVE IT!

Advocacy might be a fancy word for “complaining” to some but truthfully, I’ve realized with the incoming legislation changes that small business owners don’t have time to share their story, and when they do – who listens?  The Chamber.  We listen locally and take your concerns to the provincial and federal Chambers that also listen. They also do research and prepare reports to describe how change will challenge business.  Each level of the Chamber organization takes this information to the relevant level of government – and sometimes it makes a difference.

What I realized this week that when we don’t “win” at a lobbying effort – the work doesn’t end.  This is when we need to provide you with the resources necessary to adjust.  We must also continue sharing your stories.

How you persevere.
How you contribute.
How you prevail.

And it is incumbent upon the Chamber, as your voice – to make sure our community is aware of this.

Once again, thank you for taking a chance on building a business.
Thank you for employing members of our community.
Thank you for supporting the fundraising initiatives that help others.

And, if that’s not enough – Rhino Sports & Playland has a trampoline dodgeball league on Wednesday nights.

Thanks to the team at Rhino for having us this week!  We all had a blast and there was some great networking happening…

Don’t miss next week’s mingle on Tuesday at Shorelines Casino – 5-7 pm.

Hope to see you there!
